Exhibition film for Bow Arts

The Nunnery Gallery, part of Bow Arts, is celebrating the industrial heritage of the River Lea through an exhibition series, Raw Materials, exploring the rich history through materials important to the area. The first in the series is wood, which explors this material’s journey from the forests of the world to the timber yards and furniture makers along east London’s riverbanks.

The exhibition showcased archival objects, including tools, printing blocks and furniture, together with photographs and magazines that revealed the lives of east London’s workforce.

Alongside the historical objects, the Raw Materials: Wood resident artist Silke Dettmers exhibited her ambitious sculpture Medium Lego. The exhibition also showcased Curious Cabinets created by Building Crafts College students, demonstrating traditional woodworking methods in contemporary craft.
