Phil Coy - As Far As I Know

As Far As I Know is artist Phil Coy’s exploration of the merging of public and private spaces, comprised from choreographed public performances and generative networked videos. A scene from François Truffaut’s film Fahrenheit 451 is reimagined as the autonomous and distracted contemporary commuter experience of ubiquitous mobile device use.

Exhibited at Southend’s Focal Point Gallery, the film went on to be screened at the 2015 BFI London Film Festival, as part of the Experimenta strand, visually re-scored in real time with a live performance by a choir.

I was involved in Phil’s project as one of the camera operators alongside Frances Scott, travelling back and forth on the c2c train between Fenchurch and Southend. The resulting video is mesmerising.

Focal Point Gallery - The Forum, Elmer Square, Southend-on-Sea, Essex, SS1 1NB17 - January to 4 April 2015.

The film plays in a random sequence between 8.00am - 10.00am, 12.00pm - 2.00pm and 4.00pm - 6.00pm
