UP Projects - Summer Documentary
Documenting Up Projects through the Floating Cinema
Summer 2015 found me travelling across the country via the Kennet and Avon canal, the commission was to create a film about UP Projects through their Floating Cinema project. The Floating Cinema, a converted barge described as a ‘gallery without walls’, has appeared in my films before, when creating films for The Legacy List (now Foundation For FutureLondon), who are funders. This was the first time I worked with UP directly, and it was great fun getting to know this brilliant organisation even more and using film to explore their passion and ethos, and showcase the stories of those whose live they impact with their projects.
I caught up with the Floating Cinema on several points during it’s journey from London to Bristol, including Reading, Crofton Beam Engine in Wiltshire, Caen Hill locks (a flight of 29 locks in Devizes, Wiltshire), and Bristol. The film programme was curated by artist duo Somewhere (Nina Pope and Karen Guthrie), and artist-in-residence Yann Seznec travelled with the barge gathering sound, conducting workshops and interviewing people along the way, which culminated in the sound piece Neither Here Nor There.
